Good Day Chow Down Fans,
Today I want to discuss a little house with lots of old world charm, a great atmosphere, fantastic interior colors with plenty of great Chinese dishes to choose. This beautiful chic paradise goes by the name of Cannon Chinese Kitchen.
Cannon Chinese Kitchen was built and designed in an old home on the South Side close to Magnolia Ave. on Cannon Street. It has an excellent old school paint job and is filled with colorful wallpaper, chairs, and decor. The owners left all the rooms intact, so when you’re inside the restaurant, it feels like you’re in a home of sorts.
The bar is right when you enter Cannon and is in what used to be the living room, and it’s incredibly cozy. Comfortable bar stools, a few lounging or sitting chairs and a fantastic down home setting. They offer delicious housemade craft cocktails, fine spirits, and beer! The cocktails have names such as “The Hibiscus Smash,” “Bob Barker Martini,” and the “Canon Whiskey Sour.” The bar on March 10th will be starting a reverse happy hour from 10 pm to 12 pm and extending the bar/lounge hours from 10 pm to 12 pm.When you sit down to eat, you can get all kinds of chow. Their dishes are family style and made for sharing. They have excellent Chinese ribs, pork and leek dumplings, and a nine-layer scallion “pancake” that is to die for. They also have, for dinner only, an Akaushi beef in chili broth with broccoli, scallions, and cilantro- can you smell what’s cooking!
I love Cannon and all they offer in their excellent cozy atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re right at home. I promise you will love the awesome, knowledgeable staff that can help guide you through the wonderfully planned menu, which has creative and on point dishes.
