I found out about this place through random Instagram clicking. My Mom and I were having a mother-daughter day and the impending joy of eating ice-cream left us nothing less than ecstatic as we parked across the street from a soft, yellow ice-cream parlor. A cute ice-cream figurine stuck out from the building and served as a sign for passerbys. It really looked quite out of place surrounded by all the concrete roads. We joked the building seemed to belong on a beach front somewhere, and as we walked up the porch and opened the aqua door, it was hard to not feel instantly relaxed-beach or not.

ked fantastic! We instantly began pointing everything out to one another. Dark brown wood with aqua accents climbing up the wall and unto the ceiling, a small and cozy corner displaying vintage ice cream scoops, and even a little shop selling everything from bottled sodas, classic candies like Cherry Mashes and taffies to ice cream shaped bowls to take home.
Gypsy Scoops’s ice-cream is house made and their flavors are seasonal and rotational. Some of their classics include Red Velvet, Butter Pecan, Dr
eamsicle, Windy Van Houten- which is a white chocolate ice-cream with a ribbon of raspberry swirl (yum) and Gypsy Bride- which is a vanilla based ice-cream with wedding cake pieces and chocolate chips. After tasting a few flavors ourselves, my Mom settled on a Gypsy Scoops’s speciality; a Belgian Waffle with a scoop or two of Cookie Monster ice-cream on top. That Belgian waffle was the best I’ve ever had in an ice-cream shop hands down- and I’ve definitely had a lot. There was this unmistakable lemon after-flavor we couldn’t stop raving about! My Mom best described her carefully chosen ice-cream flavor as “If you were to go up to cookie monster himself and lick him-this is exactly what you’d think he would taste like.” Take that as you will, but I suppose I agree with her in that it was a fantastic cookie filled delight. I settled on a Honey Lavender ice-cream in a waffle cone and a slice of Banana Pudding ice-cream pie. First off the Honey Lavender ice-cream was a floral, dreamy and perfectly sweetened treat. My mouth is watering as I type this just thinking about it! The star of my order had to be that Banana Pudding Ice Cream Pie though. The ice-cream melted smooth and instantly brought authentic southern, homemade banana pudding to mind. Best yet, within the slice itself were vanilla wafers that added the perfect amount of crumbly cookie texture to the soft and creamy ice-cream pie.
Mom and I strolled out back and were pleased to see a nice umbrella shaded area to sit, in addition to the front and inside seating options. Due to Texas weather we ended up back inside, I noticed there were some board games over by the spooky Halloween Tree and instafamous “Gypsy Scoops” tarot table, a few other groups of people came in after us and were playing cards and candy-land as they enjoyed their treats. I always appreciate it when places provide a little extra fun, it can really turn a “quick-stop” kinda place to a new local hangout. With other fantastic menus items like shakes and coffee it just might be mine!
Mom and I walked away from that adorable yellow parlor with a glorious sugar high, happy memories and a brand new ice cream parlor to visit. Such a great, random social media find-even if it has given me Banana Pudding Ice-Cream Pie dreams! Gypsy Scoops will definitely be a joint I’ll have to hit up again.
