Sometime ago, I met a chef by the name Juan Rodriguez. He came out of the kitchen, smiling and laughing, happy to meet me. Juan is full of life and truly enjoys cooking for others. He’s constantly answering my crazy questions and texts and is always willing to create something spectacular to eat. A few months ago, Chef Juan opened “Magdalena’s” with his wonderful wife, Paige. Together they make an incredible team, I always see Paige working and running circles around her husband, Chef Juan! I think Paige keeps everything on track for their super dinner clubs and pop-up dinners.

I was lucky enough to get invited to Magdalena’s for the “Día de los Muertos,” or Day of the Dead, Super Dinner Club. When I tell you it was amazing-it was truly a work of art, the decor, atmosphere, the very placement of the tables, and, of course-the food!
When I pulled up, I saw everything was set up outside and overlooked one of Fort Worth’s oldest cemeteries. The tables had all kinds of Día de los Muertos decorations and they even had a big table set up with fake human skeletons, and fake animal skeletons seated around it, it was really spectacular and really set the mood for a fun evening. The staff wore skull masks and they even had several machines blowing spooky smoke over the ground.

The menu was amazing and included five courses, all packed with flavors so tasty that you wanted more after each bite.

We dined on Palin duck carnitas taquitos, pulpo-which is crispy Spanish octopus, Hokkaido scallops and lime chapulines-or grasshoppers, Costilla Texas short ribs, pumpkin empanadas, and pan de muerto-which is traditionally baked during the weeks leading up to Día de los Muertos! If you haven’t become a friend of Magdalena’s on social media, you need to today.

If you get a chance to attend one of their super dinner clubs, I highly recommend it. If you have catering needs-contact them too! Chef Juan and Paige are truly amazing people with big hearts. You will fall in love with Magdalena’s and everything they offer. Check them out today and tell them you “Chow With Trey”!
Thanks and God Bless!
