Good Day Chow Hounds,
My family has been in Texas for 170 years farming, ranching, operating restaurants, meat packing plants, and multiple other businesses. I love Texas history, but I especially love the history that involves Texas food, drink and the businesses that bring folks together. If you love Texas, food, and drinks, then get your taste buds ready for some deliciousness in history.
Way back in 1927 in Fort Worth, Texas, a man who worked for Armor Packing Plants named Joe Riscky decided to quit his job making 9.00 dollars a week. At that time Joe and his wife Mary made a decision to open a little grocery store called Riscky’s Grocery Store and Market. Riscky’s offered everything from a personal touch to fantastic customer service. When they decided to start offering lunches with sandwiches and BBQ, Fort Worth loved it.
Recently I got a personal tour from door to door, counter to smokers, cutting table to deliciousness at the first Riscky’s Grocery Store from Joe Riscky himself.
When the door opens at the original Riscky’s, and you pass through time stops. You can see all the original items they’ve collected over the years, and each piece holds years of history. As you walk around the smell of deliciousness just fills the air. Joe Riscky gave me the tour, and when we reached those big smokers my mind shifted into full-tilt BBQ Boogie. All I could think was, “Joe stop talking and start cutting the ends off those briskets. Just cut the ends off and start throwing them into my mouth!” Heck, I was so overwhelmed by BBQ deliciousness and the aromas coming from the old Riscky’s smokers I couldn’t concentrate on what poor Joe was saying.
After Joe had said, “I’ll cut you some fresh BBQ in a bit.” I started listening to him a little better! Joe showed me all the smokers discussed the perfect meat selection they use and the way Riscky’s prepares and cooks it is simply- Oh Wait, I can’t tell you that! It’s TOP SECRET!
That was close!
What I can tell you though is that Riscky’s offers a wide variety of smoked meats and all kinds of delicious things to eat. Joe cut me some fresh hot brisket, sausage, and ribs! My mouth was watering, and my taste buds were screaming!
Everything I ate and tried was so delicious and flavorful I couldn’t stop shoving the food in my mouth! Josh Barbo, from the famous River Ranch, walked by and said “Easy Trey! Slow down, man!”
Josh went on to tell me that everyone loves Riscky’s and he dines there a couple of times a week.
After Josh had left I finished my food and made some notes, all the while smelling those incredible wafting aromas coming from Riscky’s smokers.
It doesn’t matter if you want brisket, ribs, sausage, brisket tacos, sandwiches, salads, or fantastic sides- they offer it all, and I guarantee you will fall in love with the world famous Riscky’s BBQ or Riscky’s Steak House in the Stock Yards.
Love Y’all and God Bless!
Trey
