Laid Back At “Lazy Dog”

Good Day Chow Hounds,

I am going to say about 8 or 9 months ago; I was ripping down Hwy 121, in Euless with my foot mashed on the floor of my Dodge, like I usually drive, and looked over and saw this big, lodge-looking building in the process of being constructed. That is why I love driving so much in Texas; I get to see so many things you would not see otherwise. Don’t get me wrong, it is always nice to board a private jet or a helicopter to move about, but I love driving. I am so A.D.D. it is hard for me to sit still, but when I am behind the wheel, I feel better.

So, as I stated, I saw this beautiful lodge-looking building. My curiosity was running at full tilt! I just had to find out what it was. It didn’t take me long, after a few U-turns and couple of streets later, there I was. I jumped out and asked the guys working what they were building. The guy said, “Man, it’s a Lazy Dog!”

I then said, “Lazy Dog? What is that?”

The man went on to say, “Well, all I know is it ain’t no little thing! This building is purdy big,” in his best Texan accent!

I laughed and told myself, “Just Google it, Trey!”

I did just that!

Even The Dogs Love it!

I hit the old trusty Google button and BAM there it was in all its glory. After I clicked around a bit and found out what a “Lazy Dog” was, I got so excited! Just for the record, we are not talking about a Texas lazy dog that won’t hunt! We are talking about a restaurant, in an incredibly beautiful lodge style building. I had just finished reading the history of “Lazy Dog,” and Ole Chris Simms before I started making calls to find out the Who, What, When, Where and How!

Not long after, I received an invite to the grand opening of Lazy Dog, in Euless. If you know me, or if you’re one of my social media followers, then you know how much I love new concepts, ideas, and
the brilliant food and drinks that follow! I attended the grand opening and got the full tour before we started chowing down. I fell in love with Lazy Dog before I ever took one single bite of food, and I’ll tell you why. My family has been in the restaurant business for not only a hundred years but all my life. I have learned always to investigate a concept before I review it. My reviews are not based on being a 3-minute food critic. I have lots of qualifications I put together and analyzed before I complete a review.

I loved the fact that the owner and creator, Chris Simms, was extremely involved in operations and his employee’s happiness. I also learned that Chris created Lazy Dog because he loved the atmosphere of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He loved dogs, and he loved the social aspects that good food and drink brings people together. After hearing all of this, I knew the food would be fantastic.

“Street Corn Wheels”

I sat down, and Chris was sitting with us discussing his concept and the delicious new menu that Chef Paul had created. Everything Lazy Dog makes is from scratch every day, in each restaurant, so it’s fresh, delicious, and on point.

We ate so much food I thought I was going to pop! After we had finished I asked about the dog policy; bringing your dogs to eat and socialize with you. You can bring your dogs to sit on the patio eat, dine, and drink with you. There is a special separate dog menu, and your dog gets a bowl of food and water. Being and animal lover and a huge dog lover this filled me with joy and happiness, “What a great concept,” I thought! You can eat amazing from-scratch food in a pleasant lodge atmosphere and have your dog- your best buddy, with you. They have a big Texas-sized covered patio with fire pits and plenty of seating. The menu is fantastic, and changes with the season and they have featured seasonal items to make chowing down an exciting, tasty event.

Farm Fresh Double Battered Chicken

Last week I attended the new menu roll out at the Addison location. We got to try items like “Grizzly Fries” and “Street Corn Wheels” for starters. Then we tried some entree items like “Grilled Steak Salad,” “Blistered Heirloom Tomato Crisp,” “Charred Lemon Chicken” and the boneless “Fried Chicken Dinner,” that is double dipped and coated in a buttermilk blended batter. We finished the tasting off with some incredible desserts, and I mean they were lip-smacking tasty! I loved both the “Warm Peach Crumble” and (GET THIS BAD BOY) the “White Chocolate Pretzel Cheese Cake!”

I was in Foodie Heaven and loving the awesome Texas evening at Lazy Dog. They have lunch, dinner, mid-day snacks, and an excellent brunch. Lazy Dog has 3 Texas locations; Euless, Plano, and Addison to which I’ve now been to all 3 locations. They have about 25 locations total in the USA and are growing monthly! To my loyal followers, I want to urge you to visit a Lazy Dog! Even of you have to drive a few minutes; you will enjoy the food and atmosphere. If you have a dog take them too! Also, if you’re in Vegas or California, you can look them up and hit them up!

I can promise if you enjoy socializing, eating great food, and drinking some incredible craft cocktails, you will love getting laid back at Lazy Dog. Check them out because they get my AWARD for the Best New all around restaurant concept in Texas!    Please view FULL ROLL OUT photos here~ “Lazy Dog Roll Out”
