The Amazing Eastland Country Butcher, Chop Shop, Café, and Meeting Spot for Southern Deliciousness

“Get ready for a road trip again—it’s time to hit the open road for country deliciousness!”

If you follow us, then you know we love exploring old-school cafes in small towns and along backroads. If you travel east for about an hour and a half from the DFW area, you’ll arrive in the beautiful small town of Eastland, Texas. Eastland is famous for the legendary horned toad “Ol’ Rip,” its Art Deco downtown historic district from the 1920s oil boom (which includes the Majestic Theatre and Eastland Hotel), and its significance on historic highways like the Bankhead Highway.

However, we came for something even better: a hidden gem tucked away off the main drag that serves some seriously delicious Southern country cooking in an unforgettable small café setting. As soon as you pull up, you notice the pure small-town country atmosphere, and it feels wonderful.

Owner “Stephen Pitzer” will tell you it’s much more than just a café. One side features an old-school butcher shop offering some of the freshest hand-cut steaks in Texas, along with other items like pork, bacon, spices, homemade pies, and grab-and-go options. They pretty much have everything you could imagine relating to deliciousness!

Oh, but that’s not all! They also have a café serving some of the most delicious dishes you can imagine. There’s something incredibly comforting about a small country café offering fresh, homemade meals that fill you up and please your soul—like you’re sitting in Grandma’s kitchen.

To start your day, they offer one of the best breakfast options in Texas: a Southern country breakfast and a two-handed breakfast taco that I love so much I’m renaming it the “BIG Triple T”—Trey’s Tasty Taco, lol! I absolutely loved it, and I highly recommend trying it.

For lunch, they serve one of the freshest chicken-fried steaks you’ll ever enjoy. It’s fork-tender, flavorful, and has a little crunch with every bite. It’s made only when you order it; you can’t get fresher than that! The thick, succulent steaks, like the 1855 steak, and the big, stacked burgers like the Heart Attack Burger or the Double Bacon Infused Pretzel Burger are must-tries. They also offer fried catfish, pork chops, grilled shrimp, and so much more. Plus, the fresh and tasty sides include green beans, pinto beans, corn, sweet potato casserole, grilled broccoli, and okra. The daily menu is truly unbelievable.

They also have a fresh salad bar that is kept stocked and ready for you to enjoy with your meal or as a side. And don’t forget the fresh pies and desserts—they’re sweet-o-licious!

You can’t go wrong with anything from Mae’s, whether you’re stopping for fresh steaks to go or enjoying some of the most delicious food in Texas. You will love it, no matter what you choose.

I highly recommend making the trip to Mae’s and indulging in some delicious food and incredibly fantastic country service. They are a new “Trey’s Chow Down Approved” destination! – Trey
