“Soothe Your Soul in Unique Suites and Destinations in TEXAS”

Hello, Travel Hounds!

I’ve been on a five-year travel adventure exploring unique and exciting places to stay in Texas. From luxurious high-rise suites and cozy private ranch casitas to innovative stacked container suites, there are even overnight accommodations in stunning grain silos! The variety of options available is incredible. You can choose from historic lodgings, charming 1950s trailers, and suites once frequented by infamous gangsters. Additionally, there are suites that overlook the Dallas Cowboys practice field or the Texas Rangers Ballpark.

Have you ever visited the Texas White House? How about spending the night in a 1960s presidential press room or enjoying wine at a castle in Texas? Even more intriguing, you can sip Texas wine while petting a white rhinoceros named Blake. If that sounds wild, consider sleeping in a giraffe barn! If that isn’t insane enough for you. How about enjoying fresh baked french pastries while you look at NEW ROLLS ROYCE MOTOR CARS in the middle of a hotel lobby.

These locations offer a wide array of activities, including shopping, swimming, sightseeing, and interacting with wildlife and exotic animals. There’s truly something for everyone, regardless of budget, and I’m excited to share my discoveries! Again, don’t forget the chance to meet Blake, the white rhino, for some petting and a scratch. There’s genuinely something for everyone, and I can’t wait to share more of my experiences!

My name is Trey Chapman, and I am the publisher of TreysChowDown.com, based in Fort Worth, Texas—Cowtown USA. We travel across the United States to highlight creative chefs, amazing restaurants, delicious eats, sweet treats, and unique travel destinations. Our goal is to uncover unique and affordable options that everyone can enjoy. Through our fourteen social media platforms, promotions, national TV appearances, and partnerships, we will reach over 175 million people in 2025. We are thrilled to share our latest travel discoveries with all of you!

Last year, Jana and I stayed at the Renaissance Austin, a fantastic hotel in North Austin, Texas. When someone asked us about other unique places in Texas that we had recently stayed at or visited, I couldn’t help but reflect on our experiences. As I soaked in the hot tub, sipping on some Texas whiskey—also known as “TX Whiskey”—I felt inspired. At that moment, I decided to write an article for travel enthusiasts around the world, showcasing the wonderful places you can stay in Texas.

Each destination we’ve listed offers something unique or historically significant. Visiting a place that captures your heart and soul and provides an unforgettable experience is something worth sharing. I believe in spreading the love for creative chefs, delicious food, sweet treats, and unforgettable travel destinations.

“If you love to travel, you’ll cherish these destinations. There’s something enjoyable for everyone. Ease your mind and ‘Soothe Your Soul in Unique Suites and Destinations in Texas’ by choosing one or all of these wonderful places.”

The historic hotels are highlighted in BOLD RED. Are you ready? Buckle up, travel buddy, and let’s ride.” – Trey

The outdoor space includes two swimming pools and two hot tubs—one indoors and one outdoors—set against the lush landscape of the Hill Country.

The Bentley Hotel and Castle on Highway 290 – Fredericksburg, TX
Any Room or 2-Story King Suite

As we cruised down Highway 290 toward Fredericksburg, Jana suddenly and loudly exclaimed, “Trey, did you see that castle?” I jokingly asked her if she had started drinking wine already, even though it was only 8 AM. To my surprise, it really was a castle—a magnificent structure with a new hotel right next to it. I thought, if that’s not intriguing, I don’t know what is! A castle on a hill in Texas, with a brand-new hotel beside it? That just screams UNIQUE!

The following week, we made reservations at the NEW Bentley Hotel on Highway 290, adjacent to the Wine Castle. Making those reservations was a great decision because the Bentley Hotel is absolutely incredible. It’s a true destination that is not only unique but also inviting, relaxing, charming, and comfortable. You really don’t need to leave once you check in for the weekend.

The hotel features twelve rooms and two suites, along with a resort-style pool and an outdoor wine cabana bar, serving all your favorite wine cocktails and culinary delights! Enjoy a wine cocktail after check-in on Friday night, take a dip in the lounge pool or hot tub, and order a pizza for dinner on Saturday. You can visit the Wine Castle just up the hill, enjoy some tasty wines and snacks, and learn about wines in a cozy and inviting castle atmosphere.

Let me ask you: Have you ever visited a real castle in Texas? Have you ever sipped fine wine in a castle in Texas? Have you ever relaxed in a hot tub at a castle in Texas? If the answer is NO, then you know what to do—pick up the phone or slap taht key board and make that reservation!

Warwick Melrose Uptown – Dallas, TX
Presidental and Delux Suites

The hotel is truly magnificent! I have been visiting for years and have fond memories of meeting my mother at the world-famous Library Bar for cocktails, delicious food, and the beautiful sounds of live piano and jazz music. The Library Bar is a must-visit, even if you’re not staying at the hotel, because it offers a unique experience in itself.

You also need to enjoy a meal at the Landmark Prime Rib  (IG Video) restaurant located in the lobby. Oh my, the restaurant is marvelous! I spent four hours dining there, savoring a five-course meal and engaging with the chef about each delightful course. It was an unforgettable experience!

The suites are cozy and warm, exuding intimacy and grandeur with beautiful decor that recalls a bygone era. They are both classic and contemporary, and you will fall in love as soon as you open the door and step inside.

The old-fashioned charm of the hotel is captivating and unforgettable. Originally built in 1924, the Warwick Dallas was designated a historic landmark in 1983. Considered a Grande Dame of Dallas, this elegant hotel is situated on Oak Lawn in the upscale neighborhoods of Turtle Creek and Highland Park, with grand architecture that reflects its rich history.

The Warwick Melrose (Full Video)is truly magnificent, exuding elegance, charm, and a cozy, comfortable atmosphere.

Thompson Hotel Riverwalk – San Antonio, TX
Senenity Suite with King Bed

When we heard about the beautiful hotel offering fantastic views of the Riverwalk and downtown, we knew we had to visit. The Thompson is new to San Antonio, having opened in the middle of 2021. Its classy, cozy, and vibrant atmosphere makes it feel like it has been there forever.

There are many rooms available, each designed to make you feel like royalty. We enjoyed a Serenity Suite that featured a living room, bar area, and an incredible bathroom complete with a spa tub. The staff and room service were exceptional; they made us feel like old friends. If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway, this is the place to be.

The Thompson is truly impressive, rising above the Riverwalk for an elevated experience in this cultural epicenter. It offers stunning, unmatched skyline views, cozy and refined guest rooms, creative culinary delights, and outstanding service. You can immerse yourself in the vibrant nightlife at the rooftop lounge, The Moon’s Daughter, or enjoy a Texas whiskey at the bar while taking in the splendid San Antonio skyline.

The Stockyards Hotel – Fort Worth, Texas
Bonnie and Clyde Junior Gangster Suite

I was born and raised in Fort Worth, and it’s hard to believe that more people don’t know about the history and significance of the Stockyards Hotel. My family has been involved in business in the Stockyards since the hotel was built in the early 1900s. It symbolizes the Stockyards and represents the foundation of Fort Worth’s livestock industry.

As they say, it’s the Old West at its best! Cowboys and cattle barons, kings and queens of country music, and even a few outlaws have found refuge and romance at the Stockyards Hotel. Patrons have traveled from near and far—by foot, horseback, stagecoach, motorcar, and plane—to experience the incomparable hospitality of this historic premier hotel. Every time I walk through the doors, I feel like I’ve stepped back in time.

The Bonnie and Clyde Junior Suite is the actual room occupied by Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker during their 1933 stay in Fort Worth amid their infamous crime spree. From this suite, you can look out the same window they did before robbing a bank. It features a king-size bed, a comfortable seating area, a dining table with four chairs, a writing desk with a chair, and a full bathroom. The suite offers a fantastic view overlooking the Stockyards and includes memorabilia reflecting the lives of Bonnie and Clyde, as well as a poem written by Bonnie for Clyde.

Omni La Mansion Del Rio River Walk – San Antonio, TX
River Walk and Delux River Walk Suites

This magical spot is located in the heart of the River Walk. When I say “heart,” I mean right in the epicenter of all the River Walk festivities. You won’t find a better location for enjoying time along the River Walk. Open the door and walk down the steps, and you’re immediately next to the water.

As you enter, the suite exudes coziness with its wooden beam low ceilings, old-fashioned exposed brick walls, and rustic Spanish Texas décor. You will feel like you’re staying at a friend’s home along the beautiful river, surrounded by sights and sounds of happiness.

The hotel seamlessly blends old-world charm with modern luxury, offering an unparalleled experience for both business and leisure travelers. With Spanish colonial-inspired architecture and impeccable service, the hotel provides a sophisticated retreat along the picturesque San Antonio River Walk. You can also enjoy the private pool area located within the Omni courtyard.

The Barfield Historic Hotel – Amarillo, TX
The Premier Suite

When you visit the heart of the Texas Panhandle, a stay at the historic Barfield Hotel is a must. I’m going to say it more than once “I love this hotel.” We had an office in Amarillo for years as part of our families West Texas operations, and there are two unforgettable things about this city: the aroma of money wafting through the air from the feedlots and the enchanting Barfield Hotel.

Originally known as the Oliver-Eakle Building, the Barfield Hotel was constructed in 1926 as Amarillo’s first skyscraper by businesswoman Melissa Dora Oliver-Eakle.

Upon entering, you instantly feel as if you’ve stepped back in time—in a good way. Your suite will be cozy and relaxing, making it hard to want to leave. This oversized suite features ample space to unwind or reconnect, with separate living areas and a master bedroom, along with a dedicated workstation equipped with multiple plug-in panels. Indulge in the luxurious shower and well-lit vanity, and enjoy a restful night’s sleep thanks to advanced soundproofing and blackout curtains.

Don’t forget to visit Amarillo’s Italian Steakhouse & Speakeasy Bar in the lobby. It offers exceptional chef-driven dining options. This Texas-style Italian steakhouse features a speakeasy bar inspired by the Prohibition era. It promises a fun atmosphere, delicious food, and unforgettable experiences. This is a must-visit!

I LOVE this hotel because my family has been involved in cattle ranching in Texas for over 170 years. The Barfield Hotel embraces the cattle-ranching culture of West Texas while welcoming guests with authentic Southern hospitality that reeks of texas history.

The Interstate Inn (Texas Roadside) Stephenville, TX
The Texas King Suite

Oh, how I love this place! I’m a sucker for historic old roadside inns, and this one is pure perfection. It’s unique, lovely, modern, and offers memorable experiences. Originally opened over sixty years ago, this old roadside inn has been reimagined while maintaining its historic charm and incorporating sophisticated modern designs. It beautifully blends contemporary comfort with the mid-century charm of the original 1965 inn.

The King Suite is new, colorful, vibrant, and boasts a cool vibe. The décor is hip, modern, and just plain stylish. I fell in love with this suite as soon as we opened the door.

If you’re hungry, you can dine at celebrity chef Stephan Piles’ new restaurant, THE SEEKER. It’s a from-scratch kitchen that offers delicious dishes layered with flavors that will take you straight to “deliciousville.”

The best way to describe the INTERSTATE INN experience is this: “As soon as you pull up, you will notice it’s a special place to relax and enjoy the cozy, modern environment, offering an elevated hospitality experience in a small-town setting that you will fall in love with—just as we did. We highly recommend that you visit this spectacular new property in beautiful Stephenville, Texas.”

Post Oak Hotel – Uptown Houston, TX
The Executive Suite

Oh my! I can’t believe I just walked into this incredibly elegant hotel. That’s exactly what you will say, because that’s what I said. Imagine entering a hotel and being greeted by the delightful aromas of an award-winning pastry shop. The shop, named Bouchée, offers both traditional and extravagant Parisian-inspired treats with a modern twist.

After enjoying the sweet scents, you stroll past the new Rolls Royces prominently displayed for sale. Yes, there’s a Rolls Royce dealership right in the lobby, and you still haven’t made it to the front desk yet! I’m usually hard to impress, but let me tell you, the Post Oak is truly astonishing! It’s the only Texas Forbes Five-Star Hotel and Spa, featuring elegant accommodations that create a world of pure hotel bliss. As soon as you walk through the door, you’ll find yourself in what I like to call “unforgettable-ville.” I was so captivated that I spent an hour admiring the stunning Rolls Royce displays and enjoying pastries before I even made it to the front desk. It’s simply breathtaking!

The suites offered here are in a different class altogether. I believe they have eight different suites. If you’re looking to splurge on something luxurious, Suite 32 is the perfect choice. I can’t even begin to describe how wonderful this place is! We stayed in the Executive Suite, which was absolutely incredible. It features a spacious living area, a master bedroom, and an amazing bathroom. But the views alone are worth every penny!

If you’re headed to Houston, the Post Oak is a must-visit. I dare say it’s one of my top hotels in the USA, and it’s truly a destination worth experiencing. Splurge on a Rolls Royce before heading out.

Lowes Hotel LIVE by Loews – Arlington, TX
Luxury Sport Suite Corner

If you could envision a hotel set in a sporting environment, this would be it. I had no idea what to expect when we reserved the suite, but it completely exceeded my expectations.

As you drive up, you realize you are in a sports mecca—truly at the heart of the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and numerous live sporting events, concerts, and entertainment venues. It’s just a five-minute walk from Choctaw Stadium, a seven-minute walk from Cowboys AT&T Stadium, and only steps away from the Texas Rangers’ Globe Life Field. For added fun, Six Flags Theme Park and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor are also just five minutes away.

Upon entering the hotel, I was struck by its modern and stunning beauty, featuring vibrant colors and spacious areas. Walking from the elevator to our room felt both classy and cozy. When we opened the door to the suite, we were mesmerized. The large bay windows provided a breathtaking view of the Texas Rangers’ Globe Life Field, so close it felt like you could reach out and touch it. From another window, we could see AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.

The Stoneleigh Le Meridien, Uptown Dallas, TX
Jr. Suite and Presidential Suite

As someone who appreciates beautiful and historic hotels, I was immediately captivated by this property, which exudes history and luxury. Upon stepping inside, I could feel the history enveloping the atmosphere with its abundant class and charm. (My IG Video tells the story)

Built during the big band era, this hotel evokes the spirit of glamorous travel, where classic style meets modern elegance in a chic Uptown location. The stunning 1923 Art Deco building is both architecturally impressive and comfortably inviting.

The suites are beautifully decorated, featuring warm cinnabar and charcoal color palettes, along with modern amenities, custom mahogany furnishings, and marble-topped surfaces. The bathrooms boast sleek black-and-white Calcutta marble flooring and elegant chrome fixtures—simply warm and charming! We loved both suites we explored, and the hotel service was exceptional. Don’t forget to visit the awesome PERLE on MAPLE for some chef driven deliciousnes. You have to visit the hotel lobbby bar, pool, and lounge area—you’ll thank me later!

Midland Hotel and Chophouse – Historic Hico, Texas
Chapter 203 – Petty Brothers King Suite

When it comes to history, the Midland Hotel is truly captivating. The hotel opened on June 14, 1891, with reports indicating that Joel Fisher’s Hotel was nearing completion. By that time, the brickwork was almost finished, and the project was about to be handed over to the carpenters. Although it wasn’t officially named at that time, this structure was recognized as the Midland Hotel, as there were no other brick hotels in Hico then. The rest is a history in the making. Over the years, the hotel has experienced fire, renovations, and several remodels throughout its long and glorious history of 134 years.

The hotel is absolutely incredible, located right in the heart of downtown with a large outdoor patio overlooking all the downtown activity. I enjoy sitting in the chairs, reminiscing about the days of old and the outlaws who once roamed these streets. With beautiful Texas-style furniture, creaky wooden floors, vibrant colors, and wide-open spaces inside, the ambiance is inviting. The exterior offers numerous patios and outdoor areas to enjoy the fresh Texas air and the bustling surroundings of downtown Hico. It’s also home to a variety of shops, restaurants, sweet shops, and even a fantastic store that provides a Texas-size selection of candy, popcorn, and fudge, all prepared fresh daily.

You can’t forget the amazing chef-driven, from-scratch kitchen at the Midland Chophouse. The menu is packed with Chef Eric’s fresh and delicious creations. Some highlights include his Pimento Cheese Croquettes, Reuben Sandwich, Red Chile Fried Chicken, House Made Cavatelli Pasta, Pork Chop Milanesa, Chicken-n-Biscuit, and Brisket Cheddar Biscuit. I won’t even mention his sweet and savory desserts, as just the thought of Chef Eric’s delicious offerings will make your mouth water. All I have to say is, “It’s so fresh and delicious it should be illegal in all 50 states—and don’t even get me started on the RED CHILE FRIED CHICKEN. OMG!”

The Petty Brothers King Suite overlooks downtown and is perfect for a weekend getaway. It features a king-sized bed, a small couch, and a dining area for two. It’s cozy, romantic, and unforgettable.

If you’re looking for something exciting and unique, where the floors and walls tell a story, the Midland Hotel is the place to be. I highly recommend taking a ride down to check out Hico!

Located in downtown Odessa, the resort-style Odessa Marriott Hotel and Conference Center offers all the essentials for an exceptional travel experience. Indulge in bold local flavors and craft drinks at Barrel and Derrick, the chef-driven onsite restaurant, or at the White Buffalo Bar. The suite was fit for a Texas oilman. It is one of the newest and largest accommodations in Odessa, featuring modern and functional designs. The suite includes a king-size bed, a separate living room, a desk work area, double TVs, a spacious bathroom, and a bar area. It was fantastic and completely unexpected.

From the moment you arrive, it becomes clear that this will be a unique and enriching experience. The park is alive with animals and offers a blend of fun, education, and friendly interactions. Visitors have the opportunity to feed the animals and engage in conversation; many creatures respond in delightful ways. Every animal I spoke to exhibited some form of acknowledgment, making it an incredibly memorable experience!

The park itself is beautiful, well-maintained, well-organized, and easy to navigate. The staff and team members are exceptionally friendly, happy, and polite. They create an inviting atmosphere that makes you feel like part of the family, complete with warm Texas smiles and cheerful “Howdy y’all!” It’s no surprise that USA TODAY has named it one of the “10 BEST” places to visit—Fossil Rim truly is remarkable! It’s the perfect destination for anyone seeking authentic travel experiences infused with a friendly, educational spirit that leaves a lasting impression.

Omni Dallas (Downtown) – Dallas, TX
Luxury and Executive Suites

If you’re looking for a great hotel in downtown Dallas, but want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the city, then Omni is the perfect choice. I’ve stayed here more than ten times in the last five years and absolutely love this hotel experience.

The hotel features a large restaurant row with over five different eateries, as well as a spacious sports bar called “The Owner’s Box.” I’ve enjoyed meals at every restaurant and the food is always served HF&D, Hot, Fresh and Delicious. This sophisticated 23-story hotel property offers a perfect blend of uncompromised service, luxurious accommodations, and an ideal location. If you’re into fitness, you will appreciate the fully equipped, state-of-the-art fitness center, the full-service Mokara Spa, and the heated infinity swimming pool that provides stunning views of downtown.

There is ample parking, shopping, and plenty of cocktail and coffee options in and around the area. Additionally, the hotel is attached to the convention center, making it an ideal location for major events.

We’ve stayed in three different suites, each offering amazing views, beautiful modern decor, and plenty of space. The bathrooms are spacious and feature both showers and tubs for soaking. I truly love the Omni luxury experience, which is always affordable and provides fantastic service.

Vintage Grain Silo, Lampasas, TX
Inside a 2-Bedroom Silo

Located in the Texas Hill Country, this grain silo dates back to the early 1900s and was once known for its healing powers. In the late 19th century, Lampasas gained fame as a health resort due to its sulfur springs, attracting visitors from all over Texas who came to bathe in the “healing waters.”

Today, Lampasas offers a variety of attractions, including cattle, horses, retail shops, antique stores, and restaurants. It’s also conveniently close to the world-famous Fredericksburg, Texas, which has something for everyone. However, I want to focus on one of the most unique places to stay in Texas—a grain silo! Yes, a grain silo!

If you’re not familiar with grain silos, let me explain. Grain silos are structures used for storing and preserving grain, with a history that stretches back millennia. They evolved from simple pits to modern, efficient structures. Early examples, like those found in the Levant, date back 11,000 years, while the modern tower silo emerged in the 1870s, with Fred Hatch building the first one in Spring Grove, Illinois, in 1873.

My family had many silos on our ranches, but I had never stayed in one—until now. You can experience this unique stay at a charming little ranch known as the Ponderosa in the Lampasas area. The silo is decorated in a stylish western theme, perfect for immersing yourself in the heart of the Hill Country.

This is the ideal place to relax and escape the city lights. You can enjoy nights of stargazing, breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, all while listening to the peaceful sounds of nature surrounded by majestic live oaks.

Omni Houston Hotel and Makara Spa – Houston, TX
Galleria, Executive, and Parlor Suites

Located in the heart of Houston’s cultural center, the Omni Houston is a magnificent property. It is surrounded by some of the city’s best restaurants, shops, and car dealerships, all just steps away. The pool area resembles a resort pool, offering plenty of space to relax. If you enjoy watching birds, you’ll be delighted to see two local resident black swans; they even have designated feeding times. I know this because we’ve spent several hours talking and watching them by the pool area.

The suites are cozy, beautifully decorated, and richly appointed. The amenities in the guest rooms and suites will spoil you, making it hard to stay anywhere else. Each spacious room welcomes you with elegant décor and exquisite appointments. Outside your window, you can enjoy magnificent skyline views or look out onto one of our outdoor pools. From our Deluxe Rooms to the Presidential Suite, you’ll find comforts beyond compare.

If you’re visiting the cultural center of Houston, this is a fantastic option for your stay. As an Omni 4-Diamond property, you will experience pampering and relaxation throughout your visit.

Longneck Manor – Fredericksburg, TX
Villa and Giraffe Barn Suite

If you’re an animal lover like me, visiting Longneck Manor could be one of the most unforgettable experiences of your life. I’ve had the chance to spend time with many exotic animals, including tigers, hippos, lions, mountain lions, rhinos, and giraffes. I believe that connecting with animals nourishes the soul and creates magical moments.

Situated on a stunning 100-acre ranch in the Texas Hill Country, Longneck Manor is inviting, clean, organized, and absolutely beautiful. They offer a variety of engaging activities during your visit, including learning about and feeding the animals. One unique activity is painting with giraffes using safe, edible paint, along with many others.

When you stay in one of the luxurious villas, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the rolling hills, pastures, rock formations, and beautiful water features from your private viewing deck. Each villa features large floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the giraffe and rhino pastures, allowing you to watch the animals as they explore and relax in their outdoor spaces. You’ll also have exclusive, hands-on animal interactions and learn about Longneck Manor’s dedicated conservation efforts, discovering how you can contribute to animal protection in the wild. Each villa has a private deck with comfortable seating, perfect for enjoying uninterrupted views of the African waterhole frequented by the giraffes and rhinos.

In my opinion, the Giraffe Suite/Barn is the best accommodation option—a truly magical experience. This unique, luxurious overnight stay inside the giraffe barn can accommodate up to four people. You’ll enjoy a spacious 1,200 sq. ft. suite, complete with a living room, kitchen, and a master bedroom on the second level of the state-of-the-art 10,000 sq. ft. giraffe barn. The suite features a king-size bed and a sofa bed in the living room, with picture windows that overlook the family giraffe stall, putting you nose-to-nose with the giraffes. Additionally, your Giraffe Suite is climate-controlled with a separate air handling system from the rest of the barn.

Guests of the Giraffe Suite/barn will enjoy private animal encounters from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and again from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM each day. These sessions offer educational opportunities to meet, feed, and interact with the animals. During your stay, you will be assigned an Animal Care Specialist who will facilitate these interactions, including private painting sessions with the giraffes and making skin prints with the rhinos. Weather and staff permitting, guests may also participate in training sessions and mudding with the rhinos.

In full disclosure, I haven’t been able to make this experience happen yet. We’ve tried on several occasions, but due to our travel schedules, media commitments, and hosting events nationwide, the timing hasn’t worked out. However, I encourage you to make the visit; it’s well worth the wait and will truly nourish your soul.

Historical Stonewall Motor Lodge – Fredericksburg, TX
LBJ’s Press Room Suite – The Texas Whitehouse

I recently discovered a cozy little motor lodge from the 1960s, located in the beautiful Hill Country of Texas, just down the road from President LBJ’s Ranch—often referred to as the Texas White House. These days, whenever we hear about a new place to visit, we always investigate before setting out to ensure it meets our expectations.

After doing our research, we learned that the lodge was originally built in 1964. This restored L-shaped motel combines modern luxury with a retro twist, featuring 12 remodeled rooms and four private cabins, all true to their mid-century modern roots, along with five RV sites.

Intrigued, we loaded up our car and headed to the lovely Stonewall Motor Lodge in Stonewall, Texas, which is right next to Fredericksburg. The drive was quaint and relaxing. We reserved the Press Room for our weekend getaway to enjoy the Hill Country.

As soon as we arrived and laid our eyes on the lodge, I knew we had made the right decision. It was perfect—like a shining star alongside the roadside, reminiscent of the classic motor lodges from the 1940s, 50s, and 60s. The lodge had been completely refurbished and featured a rooftop deck, colorful and cozy rooms, large showers, comfortable beds, and inviting outdoor living areas. The expansive outdoor barn area included seating spaces, a bar, fans, and windows offering views of the wildlife. There was also an outdoor fire pit and a grilling area beneath the large Hill Country trees, which were home to plenty of deer. I’m serious when I say there were loads of deer—we counted ten and spotted a big Texas buck on our first visit to the barn. The next morning, when we looked out the window, we saw so many deer that we couldn’t count them all. It was magical!

I chose the Press Room because I believe that every travel experience should include a mix of history, education, fun, delicious food, and a few tasty cocktails. With that combination, it’s sure to be the perfect travel experience.

The Press Room was fantastic. If these walls could talk… Originally reserved for the press corps eager to capture a photo of President Lyndon B. Johnson during his visits to the ranch, this room is steeped in the history of the nearby Texas White House. It features a small kitchenette with a table and various historical photos. It’s cozy and offers plenty of space.

If you’re looking for a unique Texas travel experience, this is the place, and it’s just down the road from Blake the Rhino. You can stop by and say hello!

The Rhinory – Fredericksburg, TX
Meeting Blake the White Rhino

I was incredibly excited when I learned about and booked this new travel adventure that I hardly slept for two nights before leaving! It combines some of my greatest passions: endangered species, history, tasty wines, and unique travel destinations. The best part? It’s an affordable experience that everyone can enjoy, while learning about the historical significance of the endangered Southern White Rhino population.

The Rhinory is in Fredericksburg, nestled in the beautiful Hill Country of Texas, and it is truly worth every second of your time. Visitors have the opportunity to meet and interact with Big Blake, a majestic and gentle endangered White Rhino. During this experience, you can also enjoy some delightful wines. While drinking is optional, you can fully appreciate the encounter without indulging in wine. (Please note that reservations are required for the Rhino visit.)

Their 55-acre ranch in Fredericksburg is conveniently located, but as you pass through the gates, you’ll enter a whole new world. There is a designated area where you’ll get up close and personal with Big Blake. The rhino keeper will guide you through the experience, teaching you about the rhino and potentially allowing you to feed, touch, or rub him. This is an unforgettable experience that will leave a lasting impression. All revenue generated from this experience goes to the International Rhino Foundation to support rhino conservation efforts worldwide. Blakes Barn

Hotel Otto – Fort Worth, Texas
Private Bungalow

As I was driving down White Settlement Road, listening to music in my car, I spotted it—Fort Worth’s first micro-resort. I had to take a moment to reflect; it was so cool and impressive, appearing out of nowhere like an old West outlaw riding into Fort Worth from West Texas. Then, it hit me: I remembered Chef Love telling me about this intimate and innovative micro-resort he was building when I had him on my TV and radio show on the TCN Network a few years ago.

Hotel Otto is truly the most intimate and innovative micro-resort in Fort Worth. When you mention it’s a micro-resort, people often say, “What are you talking about? This is Texas. We don’t have small things here.” But yes, we do! Welcome to Hotel Otto, named after the Italian word for “eight.” The Italian-inspired design and hospitality approach stem from Chef Love’s affection for the simple yet delicious lifestyle of Italy’s Amalfi Coast. By combining Italian charm with a signature Texas flair, Hotel Otto offers a unique experience that attracts visitors from far and wide. It’s a special little place hidden among Cowtown’s big structures.

Each of the generously appointed bungalows—as tiny home rooms—features a queen-size bed with high-thread-count Frette linens and duvet, a full bath with a stand-up shower, a lower patio, and a full deck patio on the roof, accessed by a circular staircase. You’ll also find a full minibar stocked with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and snacks.

If you’re hungry, you can enjoy the acclaimed restaurant, Gemelle, helmed by Chef Love. The savory aromas of Italian dishes waft through the air over the resort, making it unforgettable. In addition to that, you can relax by the pool or take a stroll on bikes around the property.

Hotel Otto is truly unique and worth a visit. You won’t find any cowboys, cattle, or horses roaming the property; instead, you will discover Fort Worth’s first micro-resort, fit for a king or queen in a micro Cowtown style. You will love it because it offers an unforgettable experience.

When discussing historic hotels in Texas, the Grand Galvez is a must-mention. I have fond memories of visiting this hotel with my parents and walking on the beach when I was a young child. The hotel has undergone many changes over the years, including a major recent renovation. It has welcomed guests from around the world for over 110 years and is the only historic beachfront hotel on the Texas Gulf Coast, renowned as the “Queen of the Gulf”—one of the finest hotels in Galveston.
