I’ve embarked on a five-year travel adventure, exploring unique and exciting places to stay in Texas. From luxurious high-rise suites and cozy private ranch casitas to innovative stacked container suites, there are even overnight accommodations in a stunning grain silo! If you think a grain silo is unusual, how about futuristic private pods overlooking the Texas Hill Country? The variety of options available is incredible. You can choose from historic lodgings, charming 1950s trailers, and suites once frequented by infamous gangsters. Additionally, there are suites that overlook the Dallas Cowboys practice field, AT&T Stadium or the Texas Rangers Ballpark. You certainly can’t forget one of the oldest inns in Texas, originally opened in 1860. As the second oldest continuously running inn or hotel in the state, travelers have parked their wagons, horses, or vehicles at this iconic inn for over 160 years.

Have you ever visited the Texas White House? How about spending the night in a 1960s presidential press room or enjoying wine at a castle in Texas? Even more intriguing, you can sip Texas wine while petting a rhinoceros named Blake. If that sounds wild, consider sleeping in a giraffe barn! If that isn’t adventurous enough for you, how about enjoying fresh-baked French pastries while admiring new Rolls Royce motor cars in the middle of a hotel lobby?
These locations offer a wide array of activities, including shopping, swimming, sightseeing, and interacting with wildlife and exotic animals. There’s truly something for everyone, regardless of budget, and I’m excited to share my discoveries! Again, don’t miss the chance to meet Blake, the sweet rhino, for some petting and a scratch. There’s genuinely something for everyone, and I can’t wait to share my experiences. ” I feel that traveling leaves you speechless and then turns you into a storyteller.”

Fox Good Day with Lauren Talking My Texas Travel Ideas
A few years ago, Jana and I had the pleasure of staying at the Renaissance Austin, an exceptional hotel nestled in the vibrant heart of North Austin, Texas. When someone inquired about other unique places we had recently experienced in Texas, I found myself lost in thoughtful reflection. As I relaxed in the bubbling embrace of the hot tub, savoring the smooth warmth of a Texas whiskey–affectionately known as “TX Whiskey”–and indulging in the rich aroma of a freshly cut cigar, inspiration struck me like a bolt of lightning.
In that idyllic moment, I resolved to pen an article for fellow travel enthusiasts around the globe, shining a spotlight on the marvelous and distinctive accommodations that Texas offers, each with its own story and charm. Our adventures had already taken us to some of the most intriguing destinations in Texas and beyond, as we curated a list of the BEST and UNIQUE 100 places to stay in the USA, spanning from the sun-soaked shores of Los Angeles to the vibrant streets of Miami.
After pondering our journey, I felt compelled to feature my beloved home state–the magnificent Lone Star State–first. Texas, with its rich tapestry of culture, breathtaking landscapes, and warm hospitality, has so much to offer those who seek adventure and memorable experiences. Our BEST in the USA will be out by 2026 after some more travel so stay tuned for that one.
Howdy, Chow Hounds! It’s time to explore one of the best bakeries in Texas. You know I believe everything tastes better with a story, and this tale could fill a book on its own. I absolutely lovefood stories of struggle that pave the way for success through hard work, passion, determination, and craftsmanship.
A few months ago, Jana alerted me to a fantastic story about unforgettable and deliciously crafted croissants. She asked, “Have you heard or seen Tom Segura’s story about how much he loves a certain croissant?” I replied, “No, I haven’t!” That’s when my baking meter went into overdrive. Jana told me, “You need to see his discussion on the podcast about how much he loved this croissant and how he walked around handing them out in LA for free because he loved them so much.” Knowing how much I admire Tom, Bert, and uniquely different baked delights, I had to drive in like a crack addict looking for my next fix, lol.
“Lips to Layers, Baby! Let’s F’N Go! – Trey
As soon as I watched the videos and started researching the bakery situation, I called Jana and said, “Jana, pack your bags! We’re heading back to Austin to try the famous legendary croissants of deliciousness.” That’s what I needed to do, and we’ve managed to do it in thirty-three different states. I have to put my lips to that deliciousness so I can evaluate the butter layers of fermented perfection myself. You know what I’m saying: lips to layers, baby! “I want to look at this croissant the way a French pastry chef looks at butter and softly serenade it with my tongue.” Then I will know for sure if the croissant is already legendary!
Off we went at 4 AM, hammering down to Austin in the Triple T, straight down I-35 like a crack addict on a mission of deliciousness.
But first, I want to set the backstory of the partnership between Italian-born chef Gianbattista “Gianba” Vinzoni and his friendship with co-owner and comedian Tom Segura. It all began when Segura frequented Vinzoni’s restaurant in California, which eventually led them to bring authentic Italian baked goods to Austin.
After their restaurant suffered severe damage and their home faced major destruction during the devastating January 2025 Palisades wildfires, the Vinzonis temporarily operated out of a Venice ghost kitchen before fully reopening their beloved Italian restaurant, Cinque Terre West, on Rose Avenue in Venice. While the couple was eventually able to move back into their Pacific Palisades home, the tragedy prompted a major shift for the chef. Expanding beyond the Los Angeles area, Chef Gianbapartnered with comedian Tom Segurato open a new café in Austin, Texas, called Ciccio Bomba, which now has three locations. He dedicated significant time to Texas, setting up their initial Fareground food hall pop-up and opening the flagship South Lamar Union brick-and-mortar location.
Layers of Perfection!
All I can say is I’m so glad they did because as soon as we walked in the doors, I had to laugh when I saw a statue of what looked like Tom holding a croissant. Then the staff started shouting, “Hello! Can we help you? Have you been here before? Can we make some suggestions for you?” OMG, I was in love already! For the record, anyone who has been to Paris, Rome, Florence, Sicily, Tuscany, and many more European places understands that friendship and fantastic service are the cornerstones of any great small bakery.
I asked Jana to take the lead on ordering since I didn’t know anyone at the restaurant and wanted to take my time exploring the menu and investigating the array of baked goods offered at this stunning restaurant. She enthusiastically placed an order for a generous assortment of pastries, and we eagerly awaited their arrival.
As the servers began to bring out the dishes, the atmosphere quickly turned lighthearted. After the third trip to our table, we began to hear playful comments from the staff, such as: “Are you all hungry?” “Do you have a love for baked goods?” and “How on earth are you planning to eat all of this?” The highlight of the morning came when Jana, in all her excitement, exclaimed to the server, “What time can we order pizzas for lunch?” I could hardly contain my laughter on the inside as I watched her eyes widen with excitement, resembling a dragonfly in its most animated form. She paused momentarily and asked, “Y’all want some pizza too?” In that moment, I was both laughing and crying inside, sensing that she was thinking, “WHAT THE F$%^& is going on at this table?” It was a comical sight to see the confusion of those around us, who couldn’t fathom why we had ordered so much food. The folks aorund us were staring like school kids, too. We loved it!
Welcome to Trey’s Chow Down Travel, where we embark on extraordinary journeys to explore unique travel and culinary destinations. If you’re new to our adventures, let me extend a warm Texas-sized howdy! Get ready, because we’re about to dive into an unforgettable adventure right here in the heart of Texas.

You know the old rodeo saying, “Life’s about the ride.” Well, at Rodeo City Provisions, located at the Mesquite Rodeo, Pitmaster and owner Leo Morales will tell you it’s all about unforgettable deliciousness. He has been a chef, pitmaster, and creator of some of North Texas’ most mouthwatering, vibrant, and delicious Texas BBQ and other delectable dishes. Leo leads the culinary team, offering Texas barbecue with a Mexican and Colombian flair that is truly unforgettable. I can say this with confidence because I have known Leo for over a decade, hosted him on my TV and podcast shows, visited multiple restaurant concepts he helped create and manage, and shared many of his dish creations from local events in the North Texas area.
His new spot is already known for its mouthwatering, succulent authentic Texas BBQ and chef-driven sides. They offer bark-o-licious brisket, flavorful ribs, sausage, chicken (whole, half, or quarters), succulent pulled pork, and some of the most moist and juicy smoked turkey you’ll ever taste. They also feature other creative dishes like quesabirria tacos, OMG brisket nachos, chili cheese burritos, brisket mac and cheese, creamed corn with queso, and Southern-style green beans cooked with beef tallow that is #stupiddelicious. And you cannot forget his dangerously delicious banana pudding topped with fresh whipped cream and Nilla wafer crumbles.
You can also complement your meal with expertly crafted cocktails, designed to enhance the rich flavors of the smoked meats and hearty dishes. From classic concoctions to innovative mixes, each drink is made with premium spirits and fresh ingredients, offering the perfect balance to your savory selections. Whether you prefer a bold, smoky complement or a crisp, refreshing counterpoint, their cocktail menu is sure to elevate your Rodeo City Provisions experience.
Chef and Pitmaster Leo and his culinary team have no boundaries when it comes to creating unforgettable deliciousness. It’s worth the drive from anywhere in North Texas to check it out. It’s more than just a restaurant—it’s the Official Barbecue of the Mesquite Championship Rodeo and the new home of VIP+ Access every Saturday night during rodeo season. VIP+ Guests will enjoy early entry at 5 PM, a private BBQ buffet, in-and-out privileges until intermission, and included house domestic beers and wines—with beverage service concluding after the roping.
If you’re a Texas BBQ fan, you need to make the trip. I’ve written multiple BBQ lists, driven all over Texas, and visited 33 states enjoying BBQ, and Rodeo City Provisions is at the top of the BBQ game. It’s more than just a BBQ spot at the Mesquite Rodeo; it’s a flavor rodeo in your mouth with every bite. You just wait until Texas Monthly discovers it and makes that trip!
Make that trip to chow down before the rest of TEXAS discovers it and lines are the length of TEXAS.

It’s rodeo time in Cowtown! As a Fort Worth native, a rodeo enthusiast, and a food lover, I wanted to share my favorite places to enjoy a pre-rodeo meal. Each of these spots has been carefully selected for their delicious chef-driven dishes, succulent steaks, and golden-brown, mouthwatering chicken-fried options. I’ve considered both the culinary offerings and the convenience of parking, so you can easily get in and out before the rodeo starts.
Some of these locations offer valet parking, while others have great parking lots for a hassle-free experience, allowing you to giddy up and grab a bite before the event.
I also have a couple of options that are open late, including one that operates 24 hours, so you have choices for after the rodeo too.
It’s rodeo season in Cowtown, and I want you to enjoy some delicious grub before you go and have fun with family and friends at this year’s 2026 Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo!
PLEASE REMEMBER to SUPPORT the FORT WORTH STOCK SHOW SYNDICATE to help our TEXAS JUNIOR LIVESTOCK EXHIBITORS, 4-H and FFA MEMBERS. This is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to promote our future YOUTH of tomorrow which HELPS FUND the future of TEXAS AGRICULTURE and live stock promotions.
Let’s Giddy Up and GRUB! Please CLICK on the NAMES to visit their WEBSITES for INFORMATION:
The closet location to the rodeo venue. Offering a full pre-rodeo menu filled with delicious options, this establishment has long been a pre-rodeo staple in Fort Worth. It features “Contemporary Ranch Cuisine,” a refined take on American classics with a Texas flair. Guests can enjoy bold flavors and fresh ingredients, such as ranch-roasted prime rib, FWSSR ribeye, pecan-crusted signature beef tenderloin, goat cheese, and ancho chili-infused dishes. The setting is casual yet elegant, adorned with extensive contemporary art, and is known for its impeccable service. Don’t miss out on delectable FWSSR desserts like chocolate mousse and hand-crafted cocktails.
Rex’s Bar & Grill in Fort Worth is very close venue to the rodeo, boasting the largest parking lot for easy access. It provides a fantastic family atmosphere and offers unforgettable, fresh, chef-driven dishes made from scratch. Their rodeo menu features the succulent “Best of Show” ribeye, craft cocktails, and delicious desserts.
Owned by the Benson family, who also operate Ol’ South Pancake Houses, Rex’s blends a lively rodeo and game-day atmosphere with chef-inspired comfort food and late-night options. Known for its friendly service, extensive number of TVs, and unique dishes, Rex’s Bar & Grill is a must-visit before the rodeo.
Located at 1501 S. University Drive near TCU, the restaurant offers indoor and patio dining, happy hour specials, and a family-friendly yet upscale vibe, fusing traditional flavors with modern twists that are flavorful and delicious.
Close to the rodeo, Clay Pigeon offers valet parking and serves some of the most delicious Texas cuisine you will ever enjoy. It is one of my all-time favorite restaurants in Texas. The menu features dishes like grilled bone marrow, Niman Ranch pork shank, wood-grilled duck breast, and many more, so you can’t go wrong.
Inspired by the changing seasons, their menu showcases from-scratch dishes made with the freshest local ingredients. With a deep appreciation and passion for food, the custom cuisine and attentive service make Clay Pigeon a dining experience to remember. Be sure to visit before the rodeo and enjoy a hearty meal—you’re going to love it! I would recommend making a reservation.
Located on Main Street and offering valet parking right at the front door, Cattlemen’s Steak House makes it easy to jump out and enjoy delicious, chef-driven meals before the rodeo. A staple of the Fort Worth Stockyards since 1947, it retains its Western roots with murals and cowboy history. The restaurant features USDA Prime steaks, including the Heart o’ Texas Rib-Eye, cooked over an open flame in the main dining area using quality beef cuts from ranches like the Four Sixes 6666.
Recently renovated, under the ownership of Taylor Sheridan, the restaurant offers a “Luxe Western” vibe with classic steaks, a popular salad bar, live music on the new unforgettable patio, and private dining in an 1883 wagon, making it a bustling, iconic spot to enjoy some delicious juicy steaks and cocktails. A Fort Worth legend!
Chef Jon Bonnell is a legendary figure in Texas cuisine. Bonnell’s Fine Texas Cuisine, located in Fort Worth, is an acclaimed destination for upscale dining. The restaurant is known for its “farm-to-table” approach, blending Southwestern, Creole, and Mexican flavors with locally sourced ingredients. Highlights include exotic game such as elk and wild boar, Texas beef, and Gulf seafood, creating a rustic-elegant experience ideal for special occasions. Signature dishes include Oysters “Texafella” and peppered buffalo tenderloin. With convenient parking and easy access, Bonnell’s is a fantastic choice if you’re coming from the south before the rodeo. I would recommend making reservations too.
Since its public debut in 2001, Bonnell’s has been recognized as a significant milestone in the realm of fine Texas cuisine and is celebrated as the premier restaurant in Fort Worth and across Texas. Chef Bonnell has worked diligently to create a unique and memorable dining experience for his customers by offering certified Texas organic beef, wild game specialties, and fresh Gulf seafood. His award-winning dishes reflect a farm-to-table philosophy, showcasing a regional style that incorporates spices influenced by Southwestern, Creole, and Mexican cuisine.
I’ve been a fan for decades, and it all started with their fantastic, golden-brown Chicken Fried Steak, cooked to perfection. They offer plenty of chef-driven delights, so don’t forget to try the tamales or enchallidas.
Experience legendary Texas cuisine right in Downtown Fort Worth before the rodeo. Reata is a Fort Worth tradition where you can enjoy great food. Reata is famous for its sophisticated take on Southwestern and Texan favorites. The menu features many iconic dishes, like their famously tender Pan-Seared Pepper-Crusted Tenderloin and the hearty Blackened Buffalo Ribeye. And, as I mentioned, don’t forget to try the Chicken Fried Steak.
Located in the heart of Downtown Fort Worth, close to Sundance Square, I would suggest reserving your table before you head over to enjoy the meal.
They offer valet parking, but there is no parking available for trailers or large trucks; vehicles must fit in the garage. To make your experience quicker, you can always use Uber.
I have been a fan of GRACE and Chef Blaine’s culinary creations since they opened their doors. Every single bite of whatever you order is so delicious that it should be illegal in all fifty states. Yes, it’s that delectable and memorable! GRACE delivers a dining experience like no other in Fort Worth. (The steaks and beef dishes are unforgettable!)
Adam Jones is known as the city’s host for his unparalleled level of hospitality and service in his restaurants. You can enjoy Modern American Classic fare created by the talented and award-winning Chef Blaine Staniford. (The man, the myth, the legend!) As soon as you walk through the doors, you’ll find yourself in a comfortable, modern setting that embodies the city’s energy. You can enjoy the outdoor terrace on Main Street, as well as a spectacular bar featuring house-made seasonal cocktails and a separate menu for bar snacks. Glass-enclosed, temperature-controlled wine cellars house a selection of Old and New World wines.
If you’re looking for an experience like no other, make a reservation and dine at GRACE!
Valet parking is available, but please note that big trucks and trailers will not fit—feel free to use Uber.
Welcome to Duchess! New to my list this year, Duchess is igniting a new era of flavor in Fort Worth, and this food and experience need to be enjoyed by more Fort Worthian’s. I fell in love with it after my first visit, and when I took my first bite, my head snapped back. When your head snaps back, that’s what we call “snap-back deliciousness.”
Their menu is where legacy meets reinvention, located inside the historic firehouse reborn as The Nobleman Fort Worth. The kitchen is fueled by open flames, guided by Fort Worth’s rich roots, and charged with fearless creativity. Each dish is infused with the spirit of Texas, offering a bold twist on tradition.
Expect vibrant flavors and local roots—a story told in every dish. Each menu celebrates the soul of Fort Worth, sourcing ingredients from nearby farms and ranches, and reimagining timeless Texas flavors with modern artistry. Every bite honors the land, the legacy, and the people behind it. Bold, seasonal, and unmistakably Fort Worth.

Valet parking or park and walk! Hello, Lonesome Dove fans! They say the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo (FWSSR) is legendary, but have you tried the legendary Lonesome Dove by Chef Tim Love? I absolutely love that place!
The Lonesome Dove Western Bistro, located in Fort Worth’s Historic Stockyards, is Chef Tim Love’s acclaimed flagship restaurant. It is known for its upscale, inventive American West cuisine featuring wild game like kangaroo and elk, as well as steaks and seafood, all bursting with bold flavors. The restaurant beautifully blends rustic charm with modern sophistication, offering a unique fine dining experience that has become a culinary landmark in Fort Worth.

The center of a fresh 10 pound Cinnamon Roll at Bonnie’sLittle Baker Man at Bonnie’s
As you know, Trey’s Chow Downroad trips the USA for creative chefs, tasty eats, savory sweet treats, and unique travel destinations. Today we’re in League City, TX, a suburb of Houston, to enjoy some of the biggest cinnamon rolls, sweet donuts, and incredible pastries – all prepared fresh at Bonnie’s Donuts.
They say everything is bigger in Texas, and that includes the desserts! That holds true here in League City, thanks to Bonnie’s Donutsand their 5 and 10-pound cinnamon rolls. I couldn’t believe the size of these monsters. The customers we spoke with said that every thing is delectable, delicious, and worth checking out especially the FRESH 5 and 10 pound cinnamon rolls.
The owner Natalie Chun has been making these gigantic rolls with her husband for a about five years. Natalie came to the U.S. from Cambodia 8 years ago to pursue her dream of owning a business. She started out working for a local baker and when the opportunity came to purchase Bonnie’s Donuts, she didn’t hesitate. The cinnamon rolls quickly became a fan favorite thanks to social media, food bloggers, and YouTube channels.
I was lucky enough to be invited in to try some of their award-winning donuts and the Texas-size cinnamon rolls. I was shocked at how heavy, dense, and massive the rolls were. Each batch, which includes an estimated pound of cinnamon, takes roughly two hours to prepare. When I picked up the ten-pound cinnamon roll I was smiling ear to ear and couldn’t wait to get my icing on and start chowing down!
Get Ready! Pull Your Boots Up! Put Your Hats On! It’s Chefs For Farmers Time in Texas!
If you appreciate creative chefs and unique flavor profiles that deliver exceptional culinary experiences, then this event is perfect for you. It is one of the premier culinary events in Texas–and possibly the USA–bringing together top chefs, local farmers, and food enthusiasts. It’s truly a must-attend event!
I know this because I travel coast to coast, from Los Angeles to Miami and everywhere in between, exploring food events and searching for delicious dishes, creative chefs, and unique sweet treats. But you don’t have to travel everywhere; you can just attend the Chefs for Farmers event, and it’s like taking a food trip around the world without ever leaving Texas.
The festivities kick off each year with a week filled with activities for everyone to enjoy. No matter your taste preferences, there’s something for everyone. The chefs create fantastic dishes, showcasing meaty, savory, sweet options, and combinations of sweet and savory. Attendees can laugh, eat, drink, and savor wines or bubbly while enjoying the spirit of Texas throughout the week.
When you talk about Texas BBQ and all it offers then you have to mention Dayne’s Craft BBQ. They’ve won so many awards and accolades that it’s impossible to list them all. I’ve been following them since they began and I’ve watched them as they’ve climb their way to the TOP of the Texas BBQ peak. The success they’ve enjoyed has come from blood, sweat, tears, hard work and dedication to their craft. All the smoked meats, pork, sausages, sides, sweets, and burgers are simply RIDICULOUSLY DELICIOUS. They’ve even prepared AND SMOKED WHOLE HOGS where ever bite was PORK-O-LICIOUS.
Let’s talk burgers! They won the Cowtown Burger Showdown in Fort Worth at RIVER RANCH two years in a row. Dayne’s OG SMASH BURGERhas got a flavor profile so delicious that everyone wants it. It’s cheesy smash burger deliciousness that’s truly unforgettable. It’s become a TEXAS BURGER LEGEND running through Texas like a run away freight train.
Their story is great one: Dayne Weaver started his journey in Texas barbecue as a backyard smoker enthusiast. His father-in-law left a small kettle grill in his backyard in 2017, which he converted into a mini-smoker. He threw a brisket on and was immediately hooked. He began smoking meat every weekend; however, barbecuing is an expensive hobby. Dayne’s wife, Ashley, told him that if he was going to continue to cook regularly, he needed to find someone to buy it. That’s how “Dayne’s Underground Barbecue” was born.

Kitt’s Homemade Kornbread & Fresh Chili
“What you’re about to read is truly one of the most unique southern inspired dishes that’s a flavor explosion in your mouth with each bite.”
You know that I believe everything tastes better with a story. Today I have something special for you that was created in Texas out of necessity… simply because she was hungry. Most great inventions have been created out of a need, and KITT’S delicious invention has now become world-famous.
A few months ago, we made our way to Jefferson, Texas to visit with Kitt Williams, the inventor of the KORNBREAD SANDWICH, and the owner of “Kitt’s Kornbread Sandwich and Pie Bar“ for the most flavorful and delicious kornbread sandwiches I’ve ever tasted.
Kitt was a hungry eight-year-old sitting in her living room. She looked for bread, but there wasn’t any. She saw the kornbread sitting on the counter from the night before, and a light went off. She could just make a sandwich using the kornbread! She did just that, and it was DELICIOUS. The rest, they say, is HISTORY! Kitt’s famous kornbread sandwich was born.
Fast forward some years, and now we have Kitt’s Kornbread Sandwich and Pie Bar, where they’re creating and slang’n the most delicious sandwiches, pies, salads, wraps, soups and desserts. Although everything is wonderful, the famous kornbread sandwiches remain the star of the show.
Kitt went through a rigorous process of figuring out how to make the kornbread work for sandwiches. She has a secret recipe for the kornbread, uses special square pans, and even has a special way of stirring the kornbread mix. It’s all thanks to Kitt’s creative process that she invented these now world-famous sandwiches.
I was excited to try her sandwiches because we heard so much about them. As soon as they sat the kornbread sandwiches in front of us I could smell that down home, southern scent of kornbread. That first bite was nothing but deliciousness. Kornbread like I’ve never tasted! They were moist, flavorful and so delicious that it was easy to understand why folks are driving from miles away to enjoy a Kitt’s Kornbread sandwich. It’s what I like to call a little kornbread deliciousness in every bite!
If you’re looking to try something NEW and truly unique, I would highly recommend you make a trip to Kitt’s Kornbread Sandwich & Pie Bar to chow down. They’re a new officially approved Trey’s Chow Down delicious destination and a MUST TRY for food lovers. I can PROMISE you’re going to fall in LOVE with kornbread all over again. I hope to see you at a table soon!
