It was a tremendous find, and we only knew once we checked into the hotel. As soon as Jana and I walked through the doors, we knew something was different. It had a feel of uniqueness, charm, and beauty. It had the perfect chill vibe with a touch of class as if to say, ” You’ve arrived at your perfect weekend destination on the river.”

Savannah has a wide variety of places to stay and things to do, but what we discovered at the JW Marriott was a destination inside a destination. You don’t leave the hotel if you don’t want to because it has everything you need, including a rooftop pool area, a separate rooftop lounge, a museum, and so much more. It even offers luxurious boat adventures in Savannah.

Everything that makes Charleston so beloved awaits right outside the front doors. You’re near the city’s finest restaurants, bars, parks, shops, and much more.

As you open the front door and walk inside, you notice the sweet Southern feel of cozy Charleston. The hotel lobby embodies the days of old when everything was filled with class and charm. The decor is so comfortable that it makes one feel right at home. You can enjoy an evening cocktail while you read a book, talk with friends, or enjoy your surroundings as you unwind before heading to your inviting room. 

The beautifully appointed guest rooms offer artful design and luxury touches to ensure an elevated experience without missing the comforts of home. We truly loved our visit and enjoyed this hotel so much. The staff made you feel special and comfortable and the location was perfect for anywhere we needed to visit in Charleston. Today, we’re at the world-famous LEWIS BARBECUE in Charleston, South Carolina, to research the meaty deliciousness we’ve heard so much about. This is where pitmaster and barbeque legend John Lewis has created a world of his own in the vast field of freshly prepared barbeque and eats. If you know me and my addiction to creative chefs, pitmasters, and culinary pioneers, you know why we had to make the trip. 

When you make the corner and pull up to LEWIS BARBECUE, you notice the massive modern restaurant that bears his name. To be honest, it’s breathtakingly beautiful and totally unexpected. Set up with a beautiful Charleston landscape encompassing large southern trees, it’s inviting, cozy, and warm. You feel right at home or in someone’s backyard enjoying BBQ. But you’re not! You’re at the world-famous LEWIS BARBECUE fixing to slang back some of the BEST BBQ in the United States. 

I live for telling back stories because anything tastes better with a little story-ness behind it. A trailblazer in the neo-traditional style of Central Texas barbecue, Pitmaster John Lewis uses his custom-made smokers to produce expertly smoked pork spareribs, beef ribs, “Texas hot guts“ sausage, and his legendary world-famous beef brisket.

John was born in Brooklyn, NY; when he was a kid, he moved to El Paso, TX. At 18, he packed up and moved to Austin to start his culinary career. Around this time, John’s parents gave him a New Braunfels smoker for his birthday, and he started dabbling in Austin’s longstanding tradition of backyard barbecue. He was soon getting creative with his smokers and meats, taking liberties with the design and construction to yield a better result. To this day, John has never purchased a premade barbecue pit or smoker, preferring to forge his own by hand. Through many years of trial and error, he’s achieved his desired results—a signature “John Lewis barbecue“ flavor and texture.

The rest, they say, is history! Moving to Charleston and opening LEWIS BARBECUE, which offers a wide variety of fresh BBQ deliciousness and more. Meats, sides, sandwiches, desserts, nachos, chips and queso, beef tallow fries, the creations seem to be endless. Anything you order and bite into will be a TRIP STRAIGHT to DELICIOUSVILLE. You won’t stop at FLAVORTOWN because DELICIOUSVILLE is one stop past FLAVORTOWN and the end of the line. It doesn’t get any better than DELICIOUSVILLE! 

We enjoyed a big tray of food: Flavor-loaded Hot Guts Sausage, Appetizing Green Chili Sausage, Juicy Smoked turkey, Succulent Pulled Pork, Bark-O-Licious Smoked Brisket, Pork-O-Licious Pork Ribs, Tasty Corn Pudding, Cheesy Mac-N-Cheese, creamy tator salad, Sweet and Savory Banana Pudding that tasted like perfection. 

I’m just going to say this: The entire meal simply tasted like MORE because MORE is all I wanted. John’s new name is MORE, that’s right, MORE JOHN! 

If you love freshly prepared deliciousness, then LEWIS BARBEQUE has what you need. I don’t think you should BLAME ME when you become addicted and have NAUGHTY BBQ DREAMS after you leave because it’s going to happen.

Austin’s NEW Paradise for Relaxation – Renaissance Austin

As we travel the USA coast to coast in search of comfortable and unique destenations we’re sometimes extremely surprised but what we discover. That’s exactly what happened when we checked into the NEW Renaissance Austin located in North Austin. We discovered a world of bliss and beauty so perfect that it took us by total surprise. From the time we entered the front doors our weekend was filled with plush accommodations, tasty craft cocktails, delicious chef driven eats, beautiful views of the Texas Hill Country, and an outdoor entraining mecca complete with two pools.

The hotel went through a BIG and COMPLETE restoration, modernizing the guest rooms and suites. All of the accommodations are simply stunning, colorful and vibrant, featuring stylish décor, local artwork, and thoughtful amenities. Everything is TEXAS chic, and represents Texas music, fun and an active life style. From the hanging guitars to the cattle and livestock artwork, it’s TEXAS BEAUTIFUL, but also extremely inviting and very comfortable to enjoy a long weekend.

You can enjoy all-day dining with chef driven farm-to-table cuisine and craft cocktails at the Knotty Deck and Bar. There is dining available in the beautiful dinning area, at the bar or outdoors on one of the multiple decks. Oh, and you can’t forget the LUCKY PONY for poolside Texas inspired craft cocktails or fresh snacks. We found the dining and snacking options to be truly unlimited and always fresh and delicious.

 

Let’s talk about all of the incredible outdoor entertainment areas. They have four different patio areas on different levels, complete with fire pits, lounging areas, swinging chairs, games… all shaded with trees and landscape. A great feature was the mist machines in the trees, keeping you cool when you’re not enjoying the NEW pool area.  Speaking of which, they have two pools. Yes, two pools! One is located inside with a hot tub and the new pool is outside, offering a sundeck, hot tub and plenty of lounging areas to enjoy the outdoor life. They’ve added a fantastic music system to enjoy some good tunes with fresh craft cocktails so you can chill and get lost in time. When you spend time outside it’s like your miles away from the big city, even though it’s right there. The outdoor area is made for relaxation and good times, which allow you to recharge and enjoy life and that’s exactly what we did!

There is so much to discover at the NEW Renaissance Austin because it’s close to many venues and surrounded by Hill Country scenery. It offers North Austin charm and it celebrates the local character of Austin and the state of TEXAS. You can enjoy Savor Texas-inspired American fare at Knotty Deck & Bar, or lift your spirits with coffee, tacos and tequila from Choza. Enjoy the fitness center with the state-of-the-art Peloton room, 24-hour fitness room or one of our two sparkling pools. The scenic outdoor spaces are ideal for large or small events. If you’re like us and you travel a lot, sometimes when you reach your destination you get a very pleasant surprise. That’s what we got when we rolled into the NEWLY RENOVATED Renaissance of Austin, located in North Austin, Texas. We were just blown away from the front door to the outdoor entertainment paradise.

The hotel went through a BIG and COMPLETE restoration, modernizing the guest rooms and suites. All of the accommodations are simply stunning, colorful and vibrant, featuring stylish décor, local artwork, and thoughtful amenities. The fresh craft cocktails are prepared using only the freshest and finest ingredients to create some creative and tasty cocktails. All the food we tried was great, and the service was first class.

Trey’s Chow Down Travel is back at it again as we continue road trip’in the USA for unique travel destinations! Jana and I took a quick trip to Orlando, Florida because we heard about this unbelievable travel destination. If you love unique discoveries that offer everything, and I mean everything, then you’re gonna love this discovery from Trey’s Chow Down Travel.

It’s an incredibly unique, fun and activity-filled destination for anyone. It’s a great location for families, couples, a date weekend, business travels, and golfers. There is truly something for everyone at the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate.

The food was perfect, offering a wide variety of dishes and dining experiences. They offer fresh and creative chef-driven eats, savory sweet treats and tasty craft cocktails. They have so many restaurant and snack options your belly will be full of deliciousness during your entire stay. We ate and enjoyed for 48 hours straight! Don’t sleep on the room service, either, that was awesome too.
